Eventus Legal is seeking a Contentious Probate Solicitor/Legal Executive with at least 2 years’ PQE to join an established law firm in Brighton, East Sussex. This full time, permanent job offers a salary of £45,000 to £55,000 (depending on experience), flexible hybrid working with up to two days of remote working from home each week following an initial onboarding period, 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, and strong training and career progression. You will join an expanding litigation team handling predominantly contentious probate and TOLATA matters, with support from the Partner.

Role Responsibilities

This Contentious Probate Solicitor/Legal Executive will be based in Brighton, East Sussex and manage a varied caseload with a strong focus on contentious probate and TOLATA matters, progressing files from initial advice through to settlement, mediation or court proceedings. Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing contentious probate disputes, TOLATA matters and complementary litigation work appropriate to your experience
• Advising clients and progressing matters under relevant pre-action protocols, including drafting letters of claim, responses and correspondence
• Handling alternative dispute resolution, including settlement proposals, settlement agreements and deeds, and preparing for and attending mediations
• Issuing and conducting court proceedings and instructing counsel and experts where required
• Maintaining strong client relationships through clear, high-quality advice and service
• Contributing to business development, supporting junior colleagues where appropriate, and developing your own caseload in areas such as property litigation, contract or negligence according to your experience and specialism

Person Specification

Applications are welcomed by candidates in Brighton, East Sussex and surrounding areas who are Solicitors or Chartered Legal Executives with contentious probate experience. You will have a minimum of 2 years' PQE together with experience of contentious probate and TOLATA matters. You should also be able to demonstrate the following:

• Strong technical knowledge of litigation and contentious probate matters and an active interest in developments in the field
• Experience progressing disputes through pre-action stages, alternative dispute resolution and court proceedings
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills together with strong attention to detail
• A positive, professional and collaborative approach, with honesty, integrity and courtesy in your dealings with clients and colleagues
• Confidence to share ideas, contribute to improvements in ways of working and support the continued growth of the team
