Eventus Legal are seeking an experienced Legal Secretary/Conveyancing Assistant to join a growing multi-office law firm as it establishes a new office in Durham, County Durham. This is a full-time, permanent job offering £25,000 to £27,000 depending on experience, with 9am to 5pm hours and genuine flexibility around working pattern. Five days is preferred, although four days may be considered. The position is mainly office-based and offers the chance to join ahead of the Durham office opening, initially working from another office within County Durham before moving into the new city-centre base.
Role Responsibilities
The incoming Legal Secretary/Conveyancing Assistant will support Residential Conveyancing fee earners and help ensure files progress smoothly and clients remain well informed. Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing secretarial and administrative support on residential conveyancing matters including sales, purchases, new builds, leasehold properties and equity release cases.
- Preparing correspondence, contracts and legal documentation through audio dictation and digital case management systems.
- Assisting with file progression, Land Registry applications, SDLT submissions and general conveyancing administration.
- Liaising with clients, estate agents, lenders and other third parties throughout transactions.
- Using the LEAP case management system, with previous LEAP experience highly desirable.
- Supporting fee earners in maintaining excellent client care as the Durham office develops its local presence.

This Legal Secretary/Conveyancing Assistant job in Durham, County Durham is suited to an experienced conveyancing support professional who can quickly become an effective part of a busy property team. Applications are welcomed from candidates who can demonstrate the following:
- Previous experience as a Legal Secretary, Conveyancing Assistant or Residential Property Legal Secretary within residential conveyancing is essential.
- A good understanding of the residential conveyancing process and the ability to support a varied caseload.
- Strong organisation skills and excellent attention to detail.
- A confident, friendly and professional approach to clients and third parties.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a local office and wider multi-office team.
- Previous experience using LEAP is desirable but not essential.
