Eventus Legal are seeking a Legal Secretary to join a highly successful Family & Private Client team in Newcastle Upon Tyne. This is a permanent job that can be worked on a full-time basis, but with flexibility over hours. The successful Legal Secretary will be rewarded with great benefits including 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, rising with service plus hybrid working.

Role responsibilities

The incoming Legal Secretary will be providing secretarial and administrative support to fee-earners in the Family Law and Private Client team, encompassing such duties as: 

  • Opening, updating and closing files on our practice management system
  • Obtaining client ID, conducting AML searches and media checks
  • Typing audio dictation, letters, telephone notes, file notes and documents
  • Preparing prescribed forms
  • Preparing documentation and court bundles relevant to client matters
  • Creating paying in slips and requisitioning payments
  • Corresponding with clients and/or other law firms; arranging appointments for fee-earners and giving initial information to clients regarding their appointments and acting the as first port of call for client queries
  • Greeting visitors to the office
  • Photocopying
  • Organising and distributing the teams incoming and outgoing post
  • Preparing invoices

Person specification

Applications are sought from Legal Secretaries with prior experience in a legal role, ideally within Private Client or Family Law. You will also:

  • Have excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and database systems
  • Be highly organised and hard working
  • Have great communication skills and be able to work well in a team
  • Be able to pick up new skills and systems easily
  • Have strong initiative skills and a “can-do” approach
  • Have a keen eye for detail and be able to complete tasks with a high level of accuracy
  • Have a professional and confident telephone manner

Experience in Family Law or Private Client is preferred, and this is not an entry-level role, prior experience is required.
