About the Job
This Family Solicitor job offers a rewarding caseload focused primarily on public law children matters. Working within an experienced and collaborative team, you will support vulnerable children and families through complex and often life-changing situations, while developing your expertise in this specialist area of law.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a caseload of public law children matters from instruction to conclusion, including care proceedings under the Children Act 1989
- Acting in interim care orders, EPOs, placement orders, SGOs and related applications, including PLO-stage advice
- Liaising with local authorities, Cafcass, guardians, social workers and experts
- Attending court hearings and undertaking advocacy where appropriate
- Preparing statements, threshold documents, care plans and court applications
- Ensuring legal aid compliance and maintaining accurate case records
- Supporting the wider growth of the family department
About You
You will be an experienced Family Solicitor with a passion for publicly funded family and children law, and a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children and families. This position would suit someone who enjoys managing their own caseload while working as part of a supportive and collaborative team, and who is confident handling sensitive and emotionally demanding matters.
You should also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Experience handling public law children matters and care proceedings, ideally including PLO work
- Familiarity with the Public Law Outline, the Children Act 1989, and relevant Family Procedure Rules
- Strong knowledge of legal aid processes and compliance requirements
- Ability to effectively manage a busy and emotionally demanding caseload alongside competing priorities
- A proactive approach to progressing matters and supporting clients through difficult court processes
