Eventus Legal are seeking a Family and Care Paralegal to join a friendly and community-focused law firm in Northwich, Cheshire. This job is available on a full-time or part-time basis, with salary dependent on experience. You will support an experienced Family Law team with a strong focus on public childcare work, undertaking supervised fee-earning duties and helping to progress matters from initial instruction through to conclusion. Role Responsibilities

This Family and Care Paralegal job will provide hands-on involvement in a varied Family Law caseload. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Family Law team with the day-to-day management and progression of family and public childcare matters.
  • Undertaking fee-earning work under supervision, including drafting applications, statements, correspondence, briefs to Counsel and other case documentation.
  • Assisting with cases from initial instruction through to conclusion and keeping clients updated on developments by telephone, email and in person.
  • Preparing cases for hearings, including Court bundles, compliance with Court directions and timetables, and checking that representation is arranged for hearings and meetings.
  • Attending case conferences, pre-proceedings meetings, professional meetings, conferences with Counsel and Court where appropriate.
  • Completing Legal Aid applications and Legal Aid bills, monitoring certificate cost limits and liaising with the relevant lawyer or billing colleague.
  • Managing diaries, brought-forward systems, incoming communications and care department emails, ensuring urgent issues are escalated appropriately.
  • Opening and maintaining files in accordance with firm procedures, completing time recording and ensuring files remain accurate, organised and up to date.
  • Supporting initial client enquiries and contributing to appropriate business development and referral-building activity for the Family Law team.

Person Specification

The successful Family and Care Paralegal will be confident working with clients and colleagues in a sensitive area of law and will bring a practical, organised approach to a busy caseload. You should also be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Ideally, at least two years of experience in basic Family Law or as a Family Legal Assistant or Paralegal.
  • An interest in and willingness to keep up to date with developments in public childcare law.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a good command of written English.
  • Excellent organisation, diary management and computer literacy, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks effectively.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while taking responsibility for allocated work under supervision.
