Criminal Duty Solicitor

Eventus Legal are seeking a Criminal Defence Solicitor to join a successful law firm based in Leicester, Leicestershire. The firm are also recruiting in their offices based in Birmingham, West Midlands and Sheffield, South Yorkshire due to expansion. This is a permanent, full-time job. However, part-time hours will be considered. Role Responsibilities 

The successful Criminal Defence Solicitor will provide support to a highly regarded specialist Criminal Defence team. You will also act as an advocate in the Magistrates’ and Crown Courts, representing clients in a wide variety of cases. Cases range from bail applications, serious fraud, white collar crime, theft, drugs, and murder cases, to criminal appeals.

The role will include but not limited to:

  • Attending Police Stations and Magistrates’ Courts, as part of the Court and Police Station Duty Rota Schemes.
  • Preparing cases for both Magistrates and Crown Court.
  • Advising clients and taking accurate instructions.
  • Maintaining standards and compliance set by the Legal Aid Agency.

Person Specification 

As the incoming Criminal Solicitor will have a proven track record in a wide range of criminal matters. You will be confident attending police stations and representing clients at Court.

Importantly, you will also be able to display: 

  • Team-working skills, together with the ability to use individual initiative relating to your own responsibilities.
  • Strong advocacy skills that can be demonstrated in court.
  • Excellent communication skills, combined with organisational and administrative ability.
  • Well-developed IT capability.
  • A professional attitude towards work and career matters, while supporting the development of the Practice.
  • A clean, current UK driver’s licence and your own vehicle.
