About the Role
As a Criminal Defence Duty Solicitor, you will manage a diverse caseload of criminal matters whilst providing expert advice and representation to clients throughout the criminal justice process. The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues across the wider criminal defence team and will have exposure to significant and high-profile cases alongside more routine criminal matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing criminal defence files from initial instruction through to conclusion
- Providing advice and representation to clients at police stations, Magistrates' Courts and Crown Courts

- Preparing cases for hearings, trials and contested proceedings
- Representing clients facing serious and complex allegations
- Managing predominantly publicly funded legal aid matters
- Providing practical and strategic advice throughout criminal investigations and prosecutions
- Working collaboratively with barristers, experts and external agencies where required
- Handling cases involving serious violence, organised crime, fraud and drug-related allegations
- Supporting clients with professionalism and empathy throughout proceedings

You will already be an experienced Criminal Defence Duty Solicitor with a passion for publicly funded work and protecting the rights of individuals facing criminal proceedings. The successful candidate will be confident managing files independently and will enjoy working within a fast-paced and rewarding area of law. - Qualified Solicitor with current Duty Solicitor accreditation
