About the Role
As the Criminal Defence Solicitor, you will manage a varied and challenging caseload of criminal defence matters with a particular emphasis on serious and complex crime. This is an opportunity to work on high-profile cases whilst providing support and representation to clients throughout every stage of the criminal justice process. The successful Criminal Defence Solicitor will join an experienced and collaborative team committed to delivering exceptional legal aid representation and client care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a broad caseload of criminal defence matters independently from instruction through to conclusion
- Representing and advising clients throughout police station attendances, court proceedings and ongoing case preparation
- Handling complex and serious criminal matters involving significant legal and evidential issues
- Preparing cases for trial and undertaking advocacy where appropriate
- Providing expert advice and support to clients throughout criminal investigations and proceedings
- Managing predominantly publicly funded legal aid work whilst maintaining exceptional standards of client care
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and external parties to progress matters efficiently and effectively
- Managing cases involving serious offences including murder, manslaughter, terrorism allegations and organised crime matters
- Advising on complex prosecutions involving drugs conspiracies, armed robbery and serious fraud allegations
About You
You will already be an experienced Criminal Defence Duty Solicitor with a strong commitment to criminal defence and publicly funded work. The successful candidate will be comfortable managing serious and complex matters independently and will thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment. This Criminal Defence Duty Solicitor job would suit an individual passionate about protecting clients' rights and delivering the highest standards of representation.
You should also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Qualified Solicitor with current Duty Solicitor accreditation
- Previous experience managing criminal defence matters independently
- Strong experience handling serious and complex criminal cases
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively
- A proactive and solutions-focused approach to legal practice
- Confidence using case management systems and legal technology
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high professional standards
- Outstanding communication, negotiation and advocacy skills
