This is a permanent, full-time job based in Worcester, working 35 hours per week across five days. About the Role
This Agricultural and Rural Affairs Solicitor job offers the opportunity to work within a recognised rural property team acting for landowners, farming businesses, rural estates and other countryside clients across the region. You will manage a varied caseload while working closely with experienced colleagues, gaining exposure to a broad range of agricultural and rural property matters. The position would suit either an experienced agricultural lawyer or a commercial property solicitor looking to develop specialist expertise within this growing area of law.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a diverse caseload of agricultural and rural property matters with appropriate supervision where required
- Advising landowners and rural businesses on sales, acquisitions and transfers of agricultural land and property
- Negotiating and drafting agricultural tenancies, licences and occupation agreements
- Providing advice on development projects including option agreements, promotion agreements and overage arrangements
- Supporting clients with diversification projects and rural development opportunities
- Advising on rights of way, boundary disputes, restrictive covenants and utility-related land matters
- Working alongside private client and tax specialists on succession and estate planning matters
- Building and maintaining strong client relationships through high levels of service and practical advice
- Attending client meetings, networking events and site visits across the rural sector
- Contributing to business development initiatives and promoting the department within the local market
- Supporting junior colleagues and collaborating with teams across the wider firm where appropriate
- Maintaining accurate records, time recording and compliance with regulatory requirements
About You
You will be a qualified solicitor with a genuine interest in agricultural and rural affairs work and a desire to build your expertise within this specialist area. The successful Agricultural and Rural Affairs Solicitor will enjoy developing long-term client relationships and delivering practical commercial advice. You will be comfortable working as part of a collaborative team while managing your own workload effectively.
You should also be able to demonstrate the following:
- Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales
- Experience within agricultural law or commercial property law
- Knowledge of agricultural land transactions, leases or tenancy arrangements
- Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise competing demands effectively
- A proactive approach with a willingness to develop specialist expertise
- Competent use of legal case management and IT systems
- Excellent attention to detail and strong drafting skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Professional approach with a commitment to regulatory compliance and client confidentiality
- Collaborative attitude with a desire to contribute positively to team and firm initiatives
