About the Role
As an Agricultural and Rural Affairs Solicitor, you will join a busy and well-established team advising a diverse client base including landowners, farming families, estates and rural businesses.
The successful Agricultural and Rural Affairs Solicitor will manage a varied caseload of rural property and agricultural matters, with the opportunity to develop expertise across agricultural transactions, tenancies and rural development work.
Key responsibilities include:
• Managing a varied caseload of agricultural and rural affairs matters with appropriate supervision where required
• Advising on agricultural property transactions including sales, purchases, leases, licences, easements and related land matters
• Acting on development-related work including option agreements, overage provisions and land promotion arrangements
• Handling agricultural tenancies including AHA tenancies, FBTs and grazing licences
• Advising on rural land use, diversification projects and development opportunities
• Supporting matters relating to rural property disputes including boundaries, rights of way, covenants and wayleaves
• Working alongside Private Client and Tax colleagues on succession planning and estate-related matters
• Attending client meetings, site visits and industry or networking events
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships within a long-established rural client base
• Contributing to business development initiatives and the continued growth of the rural affairs practice
• Ensuring accurate time recording, billing and compliance with internal procedures
About You
You will be a qualified Solicitor in England & Wales with a genuine interest in agricultural law and rural property matters. This Agricultural and Rural Affairs Solicitor role would suit someone who is either already experienced in the sector or a commercial property solicitor looking to specialise.
You should be able to demonstrate:
• Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales
• Experience in agricultural law, rural property or commercial property (with a desire to specialise)
• Strong drafting, negotiation and advisory skills
• Ability to manage a varied workload and competing priorities effectively
• Commercial awareness and a proactive, client-focused approach
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Strong attention to detail and professional organisational skills
• A collaborative attitude and willingness to contribute to team success
